Point of the Proposed Technology

Unidirectional carbon fiber sheet using thermoplastic resin. By integrating this carbon fiber with laminated timber, a new laminated timber,which is thinner, lighter, and stronger than an ordinary laminated timber was developed. Domestically produced Japanese cedar timberespecially is low in strength, and its use as structural material is limited. By combining cedar timber with carbon fiber, the strength is increasedand it is expected that the usage amount of domestic timbers as structural materials is increased, resulting in a contribution to promotion of theforestry industry.

Effect(s)

Improvement of workability, weightreduction of whole construction, noheavy equipment is required, resultingin cost reduction and long life cycle

Technical Problems	Since it is not included in the designated materials under Article 37, Section 2 of the Building Standards Law, it cannot be applied to newl building constructions. It can be applied only to modification of existing buildings and aseismatic reinforcement. In civil engineering, it can be used when its use complies with the civilengineering guideline.
