Observation of CF orientation in CFRP using plated fiber as a tracer by X-ray CT

Technical Classification:
[ Inspection & Analysis ]
Products:
Keyword:
[ Observation of CF orientation ] [ X-ray CT ]

Point of the Proposed Technology

- The plated CF as a tracer is used for observation of CF orientation.
- The CF orientation in wide area can be observed by improvement of the contrast between the fiber and resin in an X-ray CT image.
- The processing of CT image data of measurement samples with high fiber content can also be simplified.

Effect(s)

- Expansion of observation area
- Shortening of measuring time
- Improvement in efficiency of data processing

Technology Deployment and Cooperation

Development Stage Development Stage (to be completed in 2015/3; progress: 100%)
Intellectual Property Right Applying
Joint Researchers (their role) National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Chubu Center (Manufacture of tracer)
Example of Application - Automotive parts, sports equipment, etc.
- CAE (Fiber orientation analysis, Structural analysis)
Technical Problems - It is difficult to observe the orientation when the fiber length is extremely short.
- If detailed orientation analysis is necessary, the observation area become narrow.
Collaborator needed to Improve - If your company considers using the relevant technological seeds positively, please contact us.
